OUR NIMUN CONFERENCE: "in pursuit of a humane world"
The vision of four students of the class of 2012 of the IB Diploma Programme inspired the genesis of the Navrachana International Model United Nations (NIMUN). This student-led, rigorous academic co-curricular activity recognized the significance of the simulation of the UN to provide students with learning and leadership experiences.
NISV perceives a Model United Nations conference as a powerful educational tool that offers highly valuable benefits, which go beyond the scope of academics. Students are provided with the opportunity to acquire and develop critical skills such as planning, research and analysis, teamwork, expository and persuasive writing, debating, and negotiating, all of which are important to articulating coherently and cohesively. The student delegates act as representatives of countries other than their own, evaluate the global political frameworks, and present possible solutions to problems discussed during committee sessions.
NIMUN lies at the core of a keen and steadfast effort to engross the inspired and inquiring minds, from Grades 9 to 12, into this simulation. With the participation of ISSR Sweden, NIMUN went international! Each year NIMUN hosts approximately 200 student delegates from reputed schools in India as part of its education outreach endeavour.
A very well represented conference, the simulation aims to provide a robust and stimulating experience to all the student delegates.
The range of discussions, with their various dimensions, promises a rewarding experience with multifaceted benefits, for the student delegates. It is the IB Diploma Programme students who, since its inception in 2011, spearheaded the conference. The ethos of each committee becomes the playground of critical thinking and reasoning to debate persuasively, to frame resolutions consciously, while simultaneously, honing leadership and collaborative skills, to facilitate individual growth and development. The virtual space, over the course of the four days, shall be the platform for quality debates and discussions on real-life issues, underpinned with shades of active diplomacy. This makes the simulation an invaluable adjunct preparatory to journeying into the world beyond.
Our motto, NIMUN - 'In Pursuit of a Humane World,' directs our every effort to inculcate this idea in the student delegates.
