Greetings Delegates,

Welcome to the Disarmament and International Security Committee at NIMUN XV. I am Vatsal Desai, and it is my honor to chair our discussions on preventing arms trafficking in post-coup and collapsing states.
When governments fall, weapons do not vanish. They move. They move across borders. They move into the hands of militias. They move from guarded depots to unmarked trucks, from military arsenals to open markets.
A rifle sold in one country can claim lives in another. A missile designed for defense can bring down a passenger plane. One weapon in the wrong hands can change the course of a nation.
No country can stop this alone. No country can track every shipment or close every smuggler’s road. No country can hold every trafficker to account.
But together, we can. Together, we can follow the weapons. Together, we can cut the supply. Together, we can turn the tide.
I ask you to defend the interests of your nation. But I ask you also to see when those interests are bound to the safety of all nations. The delegate who can unite adversaries. The delegate who can turn competing voices into one purpose. That is the delegate who will shape our work.
The arms moving through collapsing states today will decide the wars of tomorrow.
Let us be the ones who choose peace over chaos, action over silence, courage over comfort.

Let’s get to work.
